Am I fishing for a man, or am I a fisher of men?

Am I fishing for a man, or am I a fisher of men?

Now as Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee, He saw two brothers, Simon who was called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. 19And He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men." Immediately they left their nets and followed Him.…

What are you fishing for today?  We are all fishing for something, maybe more money, more time, better health, a love relationship, to get out of a relationship, to gain popularity?....so many things we could and do fish for... Can you tell me what is on the end of your line?  Christ said to the two fisherman by the sea, "follow me, and I will make you fishers of men."

And He said to them, "Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. Immediately they left their nets and followed Him. Going on from there He saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and He called them.…Mathew 4:20

I don't know about you, but instead of having a net in the water to catch fish, I often find that net wrapped around my heart and head, as a snare, caught up in the latest sin or temptation (found fishing for something besides Christ.)  Not that I am this horrible person, but doesn't this world have so much to distract us with?  And isn't the enemy after us like a roaring lion?  The fourth chapter of Mathew talks about how Jesus himself was tempted in the wilderness.  The devil came to him and said after fasting 40 days and 40 nights, "why don't you turn the stone into bread if you are the Son of God?  How did Yeshua - (Hebrew for Jesus) respond to him? . It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.  In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.  So what does this tell us?  In order to overcome the snare (Get out of the fishing net and become a fisherman of men) we need to be in God's word.  It needs to wrap our heart and mind.

Lets read the next verse 8 - Does this sound like our lives?  Again, the devil took him up into an exceeding high mountain, and showed him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them; and saith unto him, all these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.  What did Jesus say?  Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

How do we resist the devil, by concentration on the unfailing love of our blessed Savior and by staying in his word!
